9-3-14 – Conservative Comedy Show “The Flipside” Airs This Month

posted by Rob Roper

Comedian Michael Loftus is a rare conservative in Hollywood. He is currently a writer for Anger Management, a sitcom starring Charlie Sheen, and recently created and starred in American Wiseass for the History Chanel.

Now Loftus is working on a new show, The Flipside, which began airing on September 1. This is something lots of us on the Center/Right have been begging for – a conservative alternative to the Daily Show with John Stewart. And it’s funny (without needing to resort to the profanity of Stewart).

Although the Flipside isn’t a news parody, the subject matter it pokes fun at is essentially the same as the Daily Show – politics and popular culture — as is the basic format. Loftus opens with a comedy monologue, kicks a topic over to another comedian for the second segment, then conducts an interview for the balance of the show, with a nice comedy bumper at the end. The interviewee for the pilot episode is Larry Elder, a conservative, African American talk radio host.

You can watch the pilot episode online HERE.

However, The Flipside isn’t on the air everywhere, and – surprise! – no affiliate station in Vermont has picked it up. You can use the interactive Station Finder from The Flipside’s webpage to find a New York or Massachusetts station, or a cable alternative. Otherwise, they encourage: “Still can’t find the show on your TV? Call your favorite local station and ask them to carry The Flipside!” Good idea.

Politics is downstream from popular culture. The Left figured this out a long time ago. We need to battle to put our ideas back into television, movies, music and other creative media that shape how normal people (non-wonkey political junkies) view the world. Let’s hope Michael Loftus and The Flipside are successful, and provide a lucrative example for many others to follow. Let’s do our part to make that happen by tuning in and spreading the word!
